| 2059 |
The Gilderstein Foundation's L5 Lab
disappears from orbit. |
|
| 2060-2100 |
The period between 2060 and 2100 was one of growth for the
colonies, not only in the numbers of inhabitants, but also in
experience and self-identity. By this time, the outer colonies
possessed many inhabitants who were experts in the fields of
astro-navigation, zero-g mining operations, and, of course, colony
building. The nations of Earth looked to outer colonies for help.
Training centers were established on Ceres, Mars,
{PRM, TBA} and Europa to teach new generations of pioneers
the lessons learned two generations earlier, and which were still
used every day in the colonies. |
|
| 2060 | EC, IF, PRM, UTT, VRC |
UTT formed and establishes bases on Rhea and
Mimas (moons of Saturn).
The last outer world colony to be established was on Saturn's moon Titan. Titan was colonized in 2060 by three companies looking to secure mining rights in the Saturn system. The IF and the PRM strike a deal over asteroid supply. The first spaceship is made by PRM with EC help. One year after the disappearance of the Gilderstein L5 lab, intelligence about the disappearance has been confirmed. Plans are made for the Verenigde Rimwaartse Compagnie VRC. |
| 2062 | IF, PAU, PRM |
The Foundation reveals the true nature of the
disappearance of the L5 Lab.
The IF and PAU clash in north-east Africa over water rights. The EC sponsor a peace initiative backed by a threat of force. The PRM takes many new colonists from the IF displaced by war and water shortages. The PRM starts to promote immigration. Many leave the poverty of earth for the mothering arms of the PRM's socialist policies. Advances in materials technologies and design combine to make the GEV the quietest vehicle on the modern battlefield. |
| 2063 |
The first trans-solar probe is launched to
(and returns from) Barnard’s Star. |
|
| 2067 | AF, ITTT, PRM, VRC |
The Gilderstein Foundation sends the first
manned FTL mission out of the Solar System.
The UTT is reorganized into the Inter-stellar Trade, Transport, and Telecommunicaitons (ITTT). The Mimas Shipyard is opened. With with the advent of FTL travel, interest in colonizing the rest of the solar system waned. Although mining complex hydrocarbon compounds on Titan became a profitable industry, Titan never gained enough colonists or resources to become fully self-sufficient. Because of this, Titan depends heavily on trade with Earth, the other colonies in the solar system, and the colony worlds. PRM ships destroy the private mining platform "Julie's Daughter" in the belt. The platform was registered by the AF, this provokes a short inconclusive war. The VRC is formed. Its initial charter is to be a deepspace exploration company which will exploit any valuable mineral, metal and biological resources it can find. |
| 2069 | AF, EC, ITTT |
Both the AF and the EC launch FTL craft and begin the colonisation of
space.
ITTT contracts with the AF and EC to provide exclusive trans-stellar transport of people and goods to the new AF and EC colonies. Exception clauses for governmental and military transportation and weapons). This forms the basis for all future ITTT contracts. |
| 2070 | EC, IAS, IF, PAU, RH, UN, VRC |
With help from the EC, the
IF, the PAU and the RH all launch FTL craft
IAS participate with the UN in exploration of near space. IAS claim two small planets, Adelie and Bellinghausen, and start colonisation efforts. EC survey team discovers habitable planet orbitting Kappa Fornacis and names the world Harzweld. They also discover the marginally habitable moon orbiting the innermost gas giant in the system and name this Gryphon. VRC's first mining operations have started in a remote system. Investments are high, but profitability is expected within 5 years. |
| 2071 | AE |
Alarisi Empire founded but still has ties to the
EU |
| 2072 | AC, EAU, EC, ESU, LLAR, RH |
The LLAR sues for peace
in the War of the Americas and cedes all territories in North and
Central America to the AC. The
LLAR looks to space as a means of expansion.
The EAU launches its first FTL ship and renames itself the Eurasian Solar Union (ESU). [RH] Joseph I abdicates in favour of his son, Peter, expressing a desire to travel amongst the stars. A small research post is established by the EC on Harzweld. Star systems CD-26'828 and CD-23'693 are surveyed. |
| 2074 | AC, EC |
EC/AC agreement allowing the colonization of Harzweld by deported Central American colonists and ex-military Anglian volunteers. The colony is officially administered by the EC, but most local officials are AC. |
| 2075 | IC, LLAR, PRM |
The LLAR launch their first FTL craft, as does the IC. |
| 2076 | AC, PRM, RH |
The AC launch the first true combat starship, the HMS Thunderer, from the Lunar orbit shipyard on 07.10.2076. A converted PRM ore hauler becomes the first PRM ship to make a hyperspace jump. PRM ships begin the search for a "New Motherland" that can supply PRM with the things Mars can not provide. [RH] Joseph Nikolaevich Romanov, formerly Joseph I, is the first man to explore the star system which he names Rodina. The second planet is discovered to be a garden world which he names Duma. A wave of colonists seeking independence from the AC Crown from the region formerly known as the southern United States (mostly Virginia and the Carolinas) immigrates to Harzweld (EC). |
| 2077 | ITTT, VRC |
By this date most governments and independant colonies have followed the example of the AF and EC and signed exclusive inter-stellar transport contracts with ITTT. First VRC owned FTL ship is launched as company diretors decide that dependence on ITTT is a potential risk to the stability and profitability of the company. |
| 2079 | NBC |
NBC helps to rebuild the North American communications net. |
| 2080 | ITTT |
ITTT expands into the area of trans-stellar communications relays. Using a combination of unmanned FTL couriers and a network of communications hubs, ITTT begins to provide express communication between major colony worlds. |
| 2081 | NBC |
NBC settles its first colonly on Kruger. |
| 2082 | RH |
Joseph returns to Duma and founds the first RH
colony.
Wolf 424's innermost planet settled as a dumping ground for
Ukrainians unwilling to accept either Chinese or a Russian master
|
| 2084 | AE, NBC |
The Prince Henery Company (AE) purchases two
warships from the AC and begins to build a private
navy.
NBC employees Swiss mercenaries to invade the PAU to liberate Boers that were "suffering under an oppressive government that is digging up old hatreds." |
| 2085 | FOC, NBC, RH |
NBC is renamed the Free Orange Commonwealth (FOC).
[RH] Joseph dies on Duma. He is the first Tsar not to be buried, as his body is sent into the star, Rodina, in compliance with his last request. |
| 2086 | IAS |
IAS purchase merchant ships to act as a merchant
marine force. |
| 2087 |
Epsilon Indi and its planetary system are surveyed, revealing the
third planet - Gan - to be a garden world. A new firestorm of
debate within The Jewish community begins, culminating with the
decision to attempt a colonial venture. |
|
| 2088 | PRM |
First PRM colonists arrive on Lenin. They name
all the features after fairy tales they have heard about old mother
Russia. The first colony base becomes Novo Moskva. |
| 2092 | RH |
Stolypin, one of Duma's two moons, is colonised by the RH. |
| 2093 | EC, RH, VRC |
Romania, disgusted at French domination of the EC
signals the beginning of its end by withdrawing from the EC and
petitioning the RH for membership.
System G1 511.2 is surveyed and planet PB 511.4 is discovered by the
VRC. Planet has potential, but will need some
terraforming. |
| 2094 | RH |
The Full Council of the RH formally invites
Romania to join the RH, which it does; following
Romania's lead Moldova begins to make overtures to join the RH also. |
| 2095 | ESU, RH |
Moldova is accepted into the RH by the Full
Council. Peter IV is killed when the Grav vehicle he is piloting
experiences a major systems failure, the public blame ESU agents. At her coronation in Sevastopol, Tsarina
Catherine III becomes Head of the Romanian and Moldovan States
|
| 2096 | FOC, NI, PAU |
Founding of "New Israel" (NI) on Gan, a garden world
in the Epsilon Indi system.
The PAU strikes back at FOC by attacking thier space-based assessets. In response the FOC form the FOC High Fleet Command. |
| 2097 | FU, IAS |
IAS purchase a few old naval ships from various
powers to protect shipping from privateer raids.
Free Ukraine Confederation (FU) declare
independance from the ESU. |
| 2098 | AC, LLAR |
Conflict again between the
AC and the LLAR as border clashes escalate
into all out war. Within two years the LLAR
loses all possessions on Earth. Survivors of the League government
and its supporters flee to the small Brazilian colony on Santa
Rico |
| 2099 | AC, FOC |
First settlement of Albion by
AC colonists.
FOC settles its second colony at Nue Durban. |
| 2100 | EC, FSE, NSL |
A large wave of German colonists fleeing unrest and conflict in the Franco-German border states arrives at Harzweld (EC). |
| 2101 | AE, ESU, FOC, FSE, NSL, RH, UFE |
The struggling and unstable
UFE finally disintegrates as Germany, Austria and several East
European states agree the formation of the Neu Swabian League (NSL) in protest at continued French domination of
the UFE. In response, France and the remaining
members of the UFE (notably Italy and Spain)
dissolve that organisation and reform as the Federal Stats Europa
(FSE).
Very soon, border incidents between the NSL and FSE about territorial claims on Earth and the other settled worlds intensify into open warfare. Initially the war goes well for the FSE as they overrun the NSL Inner Colony settlements of Trelleborg and Flensberg, followed by the taking of the Outworld colonies of Wittenberge, Kecel and Lienz after brave resistance from their colonial militias. On Earth Baden Wurttemberg, Bayern and parts of the Rhineland swiftly fall to FSE armoured thrusts. AE delcares independance from the EU and fends off an attempt to "subdue the rebellion". The FOC aligns itself with the FSE against the NSL. The RH remains officially neutral during the FSE-NSL wars that follow, but is widely perceived as being more than just sympathetic to the NSL. Immigration to Harzweld (EC) slows considerably after the final separation of the EC into the NSL and FSE. Harzweld falls under NSL administration, though there is a sizeable proportion of the population agitating for independence. |
| 2101-2104 | FSE, NSL, SC |
The Sol Colonies (SC) [CH, RM, and Jovian colonies], as they came to be known,
avoided taking sides in the 2101-2104 war. The colonies were more
than happy to accept a new influx of refugees from Earth, which
helped replace some of the population who had left for NI. In addition, the colonies supplied metals and fuel to
both sides, making a significant profit. However, conflicts between
FSE and NSL ships near the
colonies (some of which caused significant damage to the colonies
themselves) demonstrated the need for a colonial navy and
peacekeeping force. Against UN objections to
further military build up in the solar system, the Ceres Hegemony
bought a dozen corvettes from the NSL, and Mars
(SC) bought a handful of frigates and a few light
cruisers from the FSE. Both colonies begin
shipbuilding programs, with the Jovian colonies expressing interest
in the possibility of purchasing ships for their own defense. The RM colonies declair themselves the (Independant) Republic of Mars (RM). |
| 2102 | AE, FSE, NSL, PRM, RDC, VRC |
Further FSE advances into Germany falter as NSL forces under General Janos Matthias halt the FSE armour at the battle of Breznice. An attempted counter-thrust by NSL units is a bit of a non-event, only succeeding in regaining territory up to the Danube. The Krigsraumflotte, the space force of the NSL is officially established with a handful of primitive ships from the dividing of the European Space Force. This new force consisted of a very few newly-built FTL-capable vessels and a number of in-system ships. In late 2102 the Netherlands [RDC] (which had been at best an unwilling "associate member" of the FSE since the UFE's collapse) breaks all ties with the FSE; refusing an offer of alliance from the NSL, the RDC reassert their independence and eject all FSE influences from their homeland and colonial possesions. FSE battlegroup captures the AE world of New Lisbon. The occupation ends when the anti-matter plant in New Lisbon City detonates destroying the city and several ESU warships. The small AE navy is able to chase the remaining FSE ships out system. The FSE/NSL war on Earth eventually makes its way to Mars. Pro-NSL forces clash with pro-FSE factions within the PRM colony. The PRM army moves in to keep the peace. The weaker NSL factions welcome the move, but FSE forces resist. System GJ 1165 is surveyed by the VRC. It contains one habitable but harsh planet(PB 1165.1). Terraforming is again recommended. |
| 2103 | FSE, NSL, NI, PRM |
While the FSE/NSL war on Earth and the Inner Colonies stagnates, the
battles in the Outworlds intensify. The NSL
launches commando raids and planetary assaults against a number of
FSE colonies and bases, but with only limited
success; while the hit-and-run strikes caused significant damage to
many FSE installations, the
NSL abilities to mount full-scale assaults proved sorely
lacking.
Habitable moons discovered in the CD-36°B013940 system (a binary named Naveh and Miksam Shav – Oasis and Mirage) by NI explorers. Orbiting the gas giant Goliat, the two colony worlds are named Metzada (a forest world) and Yafo (an ocean world) respectively. Gehenem, an Io-like world in close orbit around Goliat, is rich in resources, but hazardous to exploit. The FSE send a battle-worn and half repaired fleet to "liberate" the oppressed pro-FSE peoples in the PRM. The PRM Red Banner Fleet easily defeat this half-hearted attempt. After this the last pockets of pro-FSE resistance in the PRM colony are crushed. |
| 2104 | AC, FSE, NSL, PRM, UN |
The treaty of Saarbrucken brings a conclusion to the FSE/NSL war, confirming territorial boundaries on Earth and the Inner Colonies and establishing spheres of influence in the Outworlds. The peace accord is sponsored by the UN and AC, and although neither of the protaganists is really happy with the outcome they are both too economically weakened by the war to protest effectively. Cunnard-Westford Lines launches the MSS Windsor. This starliner is the first starship to have gravitic compensators as standard equipment. Gravitic compensators allow a simulated 1g to the floor of each deck on the ship. NSL signs an agreement with the PRM for the supply of asteroids, part of the agreement specifies that the PRM will not supply asteroids to the FSE. |
| 2107 | AC, NSL, SR |
The AC launches the Dominator class Battleship. This is the first warship to include grav-equipped warship. The Scots Republic (SR) is founded as secessionists of Scottish descent leave the AC. A colony, mostly made up of English-speaking people from Harzweld (NSL), is founded on the inhabitable planet in system CD-26'828. The world is named Neuwich. The AC jumps an asteroid from Albion to Earth.{Official, PRM, TBA} |
| 2108 | AC, ESU, ITTT |
In separate attempts both the AC and ESU claim Mimas on which ITTT has
set shipbuilding operations. Defense by the small
ITTT defense force with help from the UN and
a boycott of the AC and ESU
colonies, quickly ended the struggle in favor of
ITTT.
Calls for increased UN defence spending, by the independant colonies, fall on deaf ears of the major powers. |
| 2109 | NSL, RH |
The NSL launch thier first designed warship, the KRS Wien. This design served the NSL well until the late 2130's. New Minsk, the third planet of the Rodina System is the scene of the RH's first attempt at Terraforming. Increasing numbers of asteroids are jumped from outside the Solar System to Earth. Its quicker to jump the rocks via hyperspace from another star to Earth than it is to drive them conventionally from the belt to Earth. {PRM, TBA} |
| 2110 | FSE, IC, OU, PRM, SC, TCC |
Air attacks by IC forces
herald the start of their war with the OU over
Papua New Guinea. The low-intensity war runs the
IC's way for much of the first year, as they manage to inflict
a crushing defeat on the OU 6th Infantry Division
at Aitape and go on to take the Long Islands, Admiralty Islands and
establish a beach-head on the New Islands. The IC
advance is finally stopped in Southern Papua, at the battle of the
Mouths of the Fly River. This war is notable for the first
widespread use of "Grav" propled combat vehicles on Earth (mainly
fast, light IC "Gunskimmers" used for coastal and
riverine actions).
The three companies operating on Titan and among the moons or Saturn merged to form the Titan Corporate Collective (TCC) in 2110, the fiftieth anniversary of Titan's colonization (fueling a renewal of the rumor that the colonization of Titan was the result of a competition between three wealthy investors). The population on RM began to grow very quickly, prompting an increase in terraforming and the construction of new and larger colony domes. Cargo ships transporting ice from the asteroid belt and Jovian system arrived at RM weekly, and RM supplied those colonies with food from engineered crops and all manner of equipment, from household goods to airlocks (which, in many colonies, were almost household goods themselves). A PRM attempt to jump an asteroid in system ends in disaster, the jump is mis-calculated and the rock appears only 200km from the moon. This is too close for Earth defence stations to do anything about. Due to the close proximity of a large mass the warp exit point distorts ripping the rock in to fragments, this doesn't stop the debris wrecking the FSE "De Gaul" research station and killing over a hundred FSE workers. The disaster precipitates a brief war, for a short time the FSE controls Novo Moskava until the FSE fleet is beaten off by PRM reinforcements. The UN De Gaul treaty is signed by all members of the UN. It "prohibits the transportation or redirection of asteroids or comets for commercial or military purposes." Asteroid mining returns to the traditional practice of "in place" mining. |
| 2111 | IC, OU |
OU forces seize the
initiative and launch an assault on IC territory
with two armoured and three infantry divisions. Quickly taking
Traigan, Jamdena and Timor, the OU advance halts
after the Battle of Ramang in the South Banda Sea, and the war
enters another quiet phase and peace negotiations commence. Despite
a rather half-hearted attempt at a renewed offensive by the IC late in the year, the war grinds to an
inconclusive close. |
| 2112 | IC, IF, NSL, OU, PRM |
The Sydney Accord officially ends the Papua
New Guinea War.
The PRM's declining economy prompts a huge exploration and cataloguing mission to survey the entire belt in search of rare minerals that Earth's nations will be prepared to buy, year long wait or not. This is supplemented by a push to explore as many worlds as possible looking for new mining opportunities. The PRM also starts to sell its mining expertise to other nations notably the NSL and IF. |
| 2113 | ITTT |
ITTT founds the world of Marathon in an
unexplored system it names "Front Office". ITTT
moves its headquarters to Marathon and declairs the system an
independant Corportate State. |
| 2115 | ITTT |
ITTT claims two more systems, naming one
"Mirkieim" and the other "Van Rijn". |
| 2116 | ITTT |
ITTT dedicates a new shipyard in Mirkieim.
|
| 2117 | FOC |
FOC settles thier third and last colonly,
Welcom. |
| 2118 | NI |
NI settlers and terraform/agricultural
experimentalists colonize the harsh desert planet discovered in the
Sabra system (CD-49°B013515) and name it Midbar. |
| 2120 | NI, NSL |
A mix of predominantly Jewish orthodox communities band together to
establish a colony on a temperate world in the CD-36°B015693
system. They name the star Netzach (Eternity) and the colony Tzfat.
Czech colonists from the NSL begin to arrive on Harzweld and Neuwich (NSL). The NSL encourages this emmigration as it appears to relieve political tensions at home. This wave of colonization is larger than the previous ones and lasts until 2124. |
| 2121 | IAS, VRC |
IAS produces the first of thier "Modular
Merchantmen" ships.
System LTT 4772 is surveyed by the VRC. Two
planets discovered in the same orbit and seem perfect, as no
terraforming is deemed necessary. Scientists conclude that these
planets have already been terraformed and placed in this orbit,
which information is quickly made top secret. |
| 2122 | FU |
First reported hiring of FU ground troups was to
counter the Islamic Federation offensive in the New Sicily system
(Ross 128) |
| 2123 | ESU, IF, PRM, UN |
IF and
ESU forces clash on Earth as the ESU
massacres many Muslims in an anti-Islamic pogrom on the Indian
sub-continent. Most of the action is limited to cross-border raids
and artillery duels; frantic UN diplomatic
efforts prevent full-scale escalation. The Beijing government,
appreciative of the fact that religious persecution has no place in
the multi-cultural Union, deals harshly with the Hindu officials
who sanctioned the pogrom.
PRM breaks diplomatic relations with the ESU in protest to its "attacks" on the IF. Part of the diplomatic settlement preventing all out war is the offer of transportation of Indian Muslims to the fledgling PRM colonies. |
| 2124 | ESU, FSE, FSU, NSL |
Expanding interests on the colony worlds and
the difficulty of maintaining strong centralised control force some
liberalisation within the ESU. Poland, the Czech
Republic and Slovakia petition to join the ESU
as "economic partners", considering themselves poorly treated by
the NSL.
During the confusion and posturing associated with the secession of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia from the NSL, Harzweld and Neuwich (which changes its name to the Anglicized Newich) declare themselves independent from the NSL. The two worlds form the Far Stars Union (FSU) and lay claim to system CD-23'693 (a system also claimed by the FSE). |
| 2125 | VRC | VRC commando training on planet PB 4772.1b starts. Graduates of the first training nickname the planet "the Dark Side"". |
| 2126 | FSE, FSU, IF, NI, NSL |
The NI colony on Tzfat (population ~50,000) is
overwhelmed and destroyed by IF forces.
In a move necessitated more by the exigencies of local politics than the moral or strategic situation, the FSU pushes its claim on CD-23'693 and plants a significant colony on the system's second planet, naming the world Neu Pilzen. Many of the Czech-speaking inhabitants of Newich move to the new colony. The FSE responds by mounting a punishment expedition against Harzweld, blockading the planet. This response galvanizes the FSU, which declares war on the FSE. Raids by FSU-flagged vessels and privateers (in addition to worries over a possible NSL response) draw off sufficient forces to make the FSE blockade ineffective. |
| 2127 | ESU, IF, NI |
The balance of power within the ESU shifts away from Chinese domination as the ESU government is moved from Earth to the mainly
Russian-settled Nova Moskva.
One hundred years after the effective destruction of Israel by Arab terrorist groups, the Jewish government on the colony of NI renews the pledge of never-ending war against the anti-Zionists. To date this war has largely been the province of NI Intelligence and Special Forces, but Rabbi Avraham Yoffe's public statement that the Jewish state would each and every opportunity to avenge the destruction of their homeland actually marked the start of Operation Jericho, during which NI Interface and Airborne units assaulted and destroyed several IF bases on the Inner Colonies. |
| 2128 | AC, AE, FSE, IAS, IC, IF, LLAR, PAU |
LLAR mercenary forces
(the San Deseado Interface Brigade), hired by the
IC to protect their installations on the disputed Caroline
Islands, clash with AC forces against the will of
their employers. In a desperate attempt to conciliate with the AC, who are threatening retribution, the IC execute the entire LLAR Brigade.
Understandably furious at this, the LLAR
strikes at the IC settlement on Easter, marking
the start of what becomes known as the "Mercenary War" (as both
sides employ large numbers of mercenary and foreign contingents to
complement their own limited forces). The next four years see a
very scrappy and inconclusive war fought out, the only real winners
being the bank balances of the various mercenary units.
The IF and PAU clash over spheres of influence in space. The FSE enforces a peaceful solution. AE squadrons raid PAU installations, attack shipping, and provide information to the IF. Mega corporation SETAG slaughters 156 IASian navigators, engineers and scientists in the name of corporate trading. |
| 2129 | FSE, FSU, IC, LLAR, Japan UN, RDC, Swiss |
RDC mercenaries of the Van
Koost Armoured Legion, working for the IC,
recapture the Commonwealth's settlement of Easter, defeating LLAR regular forces and a Turkish mercenary unit
in the process. A Swiss strike force employed by the LLAR in turn raids a major IC
logistics centre in Manila on Earth, but is repelled by the local
forces and Japanese mercenary troops; the Swiss make use of nerve
agents to cover their withdrawal, causing heavy casualties to the
Japanese and bringing severe protests in the UN
assembly.
In a remarkable commando action, the FSU manages to steal a carrier from FSE dockyards. |
| 2130 | ESU, FSE, FSU, IF, SK |
Shi'ite fundamentalists declare independence
from the IF on their Outworld settlements of Abu
Haman and Sad Al Bari. Saudi attempts to regain control of these
colonies fail as troops of the 2nd Islamic Legion sent to suppress
the rebellion switch sides after landfall and join the
fundamentalists under the banner of Mullah Saeed ibn Aamir. The two
colonies declare the formation of the Saeed Khalifate (SK) and, in an effort to raise much needed hard currency
soon begin to utilise their armed forces as mercenary units for
hire. Over the next few years, the Khalifate's mercenaries are to
earn themselves the reputation of being among the toughest units in
Human space.
The FSE/FSU conflict sputters to an inconclusive end. The ESU sponsors a treaty which both belligerants sign. The FSU purchases ownership of Neu Pilzen from the FSE, pays for the stolen carrier, and purchases another carrier. |
| 2130-2131 | AC, AE, PAU |
Second AE-PAU War. AC pressure
eventually forces Alarish to accept a peace settlement with only
token gains. |
| 2131 | IC, IF, NI |
NI and IF
mercenaries clash with each on Easter despite both having been
hired by the IC; both forces' contracts are
promptly revoked, and several IC Defence Ministry
staff responsible for the hirings are severely punished for their
lack of foresight. |
| 2132 | IC, LLAR, RDC |
The Mercenary War is finally brought to an
end with the signing of the Mercenary Charter on the RDC-settled world of Freisland. The Charter, as well as
finalising the LLAR/IC
dispute with heavy reparations being paid by the
IC over the San Deseado Brigade incident, lays out a code to
which all mercenary units and their employers are expected to
adhere. All signatories to the Charter, which include most of
nations and blocs that either supply or employ foreign mercenary
troops, agree not to hire any unit that does not comply with the
terms of the code. |
| 2132-2137 | ESU, AC |
ESU and
AC forces skirmish on Chi Draconis VII as both powers continue
to expand their colonial settlement programmes. Over the next five
years such "border skirmishes" become more frequent, especially in
the minor colonies and Outworlds. |
| 2133 | FSE |
Radical French separatists in the colony
settlements of Bretonneux, Doullens and Compville declare
unilateral independence from the FSE. Elements
of the Colonial Legion - namely the 1e REP, 5th and 13th DBLC - are
sent to quell the insurrection. Despite initial setbacks due to
stronger rebel opposition than expected, the Legion troops are
finally able to defeat the separatists' main forces; however,
resentment among the populations remain high and the Colonial
forces are drawn into a prolonged and dirty guerrilla with
remaining local troops. |
| 2134 | AC, Japan, NSL, RH |
In Copenhagen, Earth, a treaty is signed by the
AC, NSL, Japanese and RH
acknowledging RH control over the star system
known as "Confederation", but requiring it to militarily protect
the other nations' interests in the system. |
| 2135 | AC, PRM |
The AC moves its Parliament
to Albion, which now has population almost as large as England
thanks to massive immigration and engineered population growth
programmes. The reigning monarch, Charles V, divides his time
between palaces in England, Vermont, Ottawa and Albion.
Brief but viscous war over a world named "Mao" by the PRM and "New Sussex" by the AC, the PRM's small fleet is forced off by the much larger AC fleet. |
| 2136 | AC, NAC |
The AC renames itself the
New Anglian Confederation (NAC) and revises its
Constitution to include all related colonies as independent
members. |
| 2137-2142 | ESU, FOC, IF, ISC NAC, NI, SC |
The ESU declares war on
the NAC due to "the hostile actions and intents
of the Imperialists". The five years of intense space and land
warfare known as the First Solar War rages through the Inner
Colonies and the Outworlds.
ESU forces invade NAC settlements on Salzburg, but are repelled with heavy losses after fierce fighting. The important NAC Outworld base on Lancelot is taken by an ESU Naval Infantry Assault Division, and an inconclusive skirmish between NAC and ESU space units off Grendel signals the start of major Naval offensives by both sides. IF and NI forces skirmish along trade routes that skirt war zones. Both NI and IF mercenaries are hired by various groups, but having learned the lesson, never by the same group. FOC and SC remains neutral in the First Solar War. During this period the Independent State of Ceres (ISC) began to consolidate its power, bringing other belt colonies into a loose organization. This was despite claims that ISC was covertly supporting pirate groups; in fact, almost all of the colonies in the asteroid belt were covertly supporting pirate groups, typically by providing supplies or shelter. However, the belt colonies were careful to only support pirates who preyed on non-colony shipping. |
| 2138 | ESU, NAC, VRC |
The NAC launch Operation Jester, a counter-thrust against the ESU; ESU possessions on Mariana and Trelleborg fall rapidly, but an attempt to take the major colony of Chiang is beaten back. An attempt to retake Lancelot also fails with heavy losses to the NAC 2nd Drop Cavalry.
A year after the start of the First Solar War, the charter of the
VRC is changed to include the discovery of remote
planets and the resettlement of people to these planets. |
| 2139 | ESU, NAC |
ESU forces comprising the
15th Guards "Zhukov" Division and the 135th "Tyulenev" Division
land on Flensberg and invest the NAC settlement
of Faith. The colony, defended only by Local Volunteer Reserve
troops and the 3rd Infantry Brigade of the reformed Gurkha Rifles,
manages to hold out for nearly nine months until relief forces
under General Pauline Chappell arrive and repel the
ESU forces. |
| 2140 | ESU, NAC, NI |
Operation Season's End results in the NAC seizing the ESU outposts of
Mikhailovka and Showyang, both against heavy resistance.
Rumors surface regarding a NI supership under construction in a secret location. Its purpose is unknown, though sometimes it is associated with the name "Shilum" (retribution). Sources differ - some deny its existence, some swear they have seen the construction facility, others believe it is a false lead away from other secret projects, and still others believe it is a disinformation campaign designed by enemies of the state to stir up distrust of NI. |
| 2142 | ESU, NAC, RH |
The Accord of Freisland brings the First
Solar War to an end, with the NAC hailing it as
a major victory while the ESU licks its wounds
and considers its next move. Human space enjoys an all-too-brief
period of relative peace.
[RH] Tsarina Catherine III dies of natural causes after a long, relatively peaceful and prosperous reign. |
| 2143 | ITTT, SC, UNSC |
The United Nations Space Command (UNSC) is formed to forbid space conflict in the Core
systems, and provide a peacekeeping force where required in the
inner colonies. Pressure by several major powers results in the UNSC having no mandate to operate in the
Outworlds, except in a scientific/research capacity.
Construction of warships in the SC slowed at
the end of the war in 2142, and came to a standstill with the
formation of the UNSC. Although at first
hardly able to enforce the prohibition against space conflict in
the Core systems, the Sol colonies were eager to avoid conflict
with UNSC forces. The colonies were also
willing to let someone else deal with the pirate attacks.

| 2144 | PRM, RH, USNC |
PRM declines to become an associate member of
the USNC, accusing the organisation of
"earthist capitalist bias".
Tsar Michael I gains the dubious honour of being the first Head of State to disappear in a misjump from Rodina to Terra. |
| 2145-2157 | ESU, FOC, FSE, IF, NAC, NI, NSL, PAU, PRM, RH, UNSC |
A surprise strike against the
RH by ESU units heralds the outbreak of the
Second Solar War. This time more major powers are quickly
dragged into the conflict, with the NAC and NSL supporting the RH against the
"Communist aggression" while the FSE and PAU enter the war on the ESU
side. UNSC presence prevents the war intruding
on the Core system, though combat occurs on several inner
colonies.
FOC is drawn into the Second Solar War due to ties with the FSE. FOC is brought to bear primarilly against the NSL, ironically often in conjuction with the PAU. NI stays out, but supplies mercenaries to various parties. Indecisive conflicts with IF ships are commonplace. Despite these frequent military clashes, NI sees a dramatic increase in imigration from Earth and the Inner Colonies during the war. SC declares neutrality. Combined population of all PRM worlds exceeds one million. The population is growing rapidly but there is still a huge job surplus in the PRM economy. Many PRM ships are running on half or less crews. |
| 2145 | GS |
Settled in 2145 by Serbian separatists who arrived to find the
planet they called Greater Suberia (a small, mountainous, and cold inner
planet of LTT 12352) already inhabited by Croatian claim jumpers.
Or was it that the Croatians landed on New Croatia only to find
Serbian claim jumpers? The planet descended into total
anarchy in short order. |
| 2146 | ESU, FSE, NAC, NSL, PAU, RH |
The war escalates as the
ESU launches a major campaign dedicated to regaining the
possessions lost during the First Solar War. Their occupied
colonies on Trelleborg and Showyang are retaken after short but
bloody campaigns. On Dnestr, RH defenders manage
to beat back a joint FSE/PAU
invasion force and hold their major towns, but the invaders merely
fall back to regroup in the vast outback of this sparsely-settled
world. |
| 2147 | CH, ESU, NAC |
The ESU finally retake
Mikhailovka, and make strike raids against the
NAC settlements of Bifrost and Valhalla.
The Ceres Hegemony (CH) is formed, with the pirate fleets being quietly incorporated into the CH navy |
| 2148 | FSE, JA, NAC, PAU |
NAC forces under Admiral
Sir Andrew Le Throux instigate Operation Dryland, a surprise attack
on the PAU settled world of Grand Lahou. Despite
strong resistance from PAU and
FSE Naval units, the NAC force makes a
successful assault and takes the major townships of Bouna and
Markounda.
The Jovian colonies formed the Jovian Alliance. (JA). |
| 2149 | ESU, NAC, NSL, RH, VRC |
Buoyed by the success of Dryland, the NAC and NSL militaries launch
Operation Galahad, a joint strike to regain Lancelot. The ESU defenders, led by General Lech Pawodowski with the
57th Combined Division, beat back attack after attack as NAC and NSL troops are poured into
the battle. After seventy days of spirited resistance Pawodowski
surrenders with full military honours leading the remaining one
hundred and forty survivors of his Division into captivity.
Terra-forming of the fourth planet in the Rodina system (RH), Bodkin, begins. Terraforming of planet PB 1165.1 by the VRC is started. First large scale immigration to the still harsh planet PB 511.4. |
| 2150 | FSE, NAC, NSL, PAU, SC, TCC |
NSL forces attempt to take the FSE settlement of Di Persano, but are repulsed by System Defence forces before they can approach orbit. A PAU strike force fails to recapture Grand Lahou. The NAC decommision the last Caledon class Battlecruiser. This battlecruiser was the last warship of a major power, still in service to use centrifuge simulated gravity instead of gravitic compensators. With the formal unification of the Jovian and Ceres colonies, the government of RM began to consider the prospect of a more informal unification of the SC as a whole. The TCC began to push for such an organization; although rarely threatened, they believed that it was only a matter of time before a power bloc attempted to capture Titan, despite UNSC protection. Mars proposed the alliance in 2150; years of heated debate followed. However, the debates focused on the terms of the alliance rather than the idea, or necessity, of an alliance. |
| 2151 | ESU, NAC, RH |
RH assault forces land on
the ESU colony of Nizhneudinsk and begin a
prolonged campaign to capture the major townships.
NAC political agents attempt to persuade the Manchu government
on Chiang to rise against the ESU, but without
success. |
| 2152 | ESU, FOC, NAC |
Boer Voortrekkers claim a large area of
subtropical land on Iylichograd, naming it Neu Transvaal. Operation
White Feather is launched in the Chi Draconis system as NAC forces attempt to remove the ESU
from the system. Fierce fighting is space and on planet ends in an
NAC defeat from the sheer weight of the
defending forces. |
| 2153 | FSE, FSU, NSL |
After repeated incidents in which FSE forces
confiscate or destroy FSU cargo vessels trading
with the NSL, the FSU joins
the war against the FSE, though no declaration
of war is ever made against the ESU and PAU. A NSL battlecruiser squadron
with support elements is based at Harzweld. |
| 2154 | CH, FSE, JA, Luna, NAC, NSL, PAU, RH, RM, TCC, TBA |
The FSE concludes a peace
treaty with the NAC/NSL/RH alliance and withdraws from the Second Solar War.
The PAU makes a last abortive attempt to retake
Grand Lahou before rejoining the peace negotiations.
The constant warfare of the past eight years proved compelling enough to convince the SC to form a loose alliance. As the Lunar colonies declined to join, the alliance came to be known unofficially as the Trans-Belt Alliance (TBA). As no more acceptable name was proposed, the name became official when the CH, Republic of Mars (RM), JA, and the TCC signed the documents of alliance in 2154. |
| 2155 | ESU, NAC, PRM |
In a last desperate attempt to change the
tide of the war, the ESU assaults the Winchester
system with a massive task force. Large troop landings are made on
the NAC-held colony, but the Planetary Defence
troops hold on stubbornly through Winchester's long and bitter
winter.
Taking advantage of the losses of the NAC in the Second Solar War the PRM re-takes "Mao". The small indigenous population is removed and scattered around other colonies for "political re-education". |
| 2156 | ESU, NAC, RH |
NAC Naval units under Rear
Admiral Dame Jayne Oppenburger jump into the Winchester system and
soundly defeat the ESU fleet; the ESU troops on the planet surrender unconditionally
following their fleet's virtual destruction.
Alexander IV (RH) dies from a virus that swept through the population of Stolypin, the second moon of Duma, whilst he was on an official visit. Analysis by the Okrana reveals that the virus was, surprisingly, a natural mutation. 30% of Stolypin's population die before antibodies are found. The virus finds its way to miners of the Redemption asteroid field and both settlements are put under strict quarantine until a vaccine for the Stolypin Plague, as the media named it, is discovered late in the year. Mass distribution of the vaccine is helped by UNSC hospital ships. ITTT, in a goodwill gesture, provides free transport for shipments of the Stolypin vaccine and medical volunteers. |
| 2157 | CAS, ESU, FOC, FSE, FOR NAC, NSL, PAU, RH, UNSC |
Following long negotiations, the Second Solar War is finally ended with the treaty of Khorramshahr. The FOC becomes the Free Orange Republic FOR. PAU was not able to realize its dream of a corridor between earth and it colonies. The war left the PAU nearly broke and its government in turmoil. PAU was left split as part of its colonies formed the Commonwealth of African States (CAS). The government falls at the end of the year. |
| 2158 | CAS |
The year began with a vote of no confidence (in the CAS)for the new government after 90 days of failures and civil unrest growing each day a new government is formed. By the end of the year the government has stabilize. |
| 2159 | FCT, IF, NAC, NI, PRM, VRC |
California and Texas declare themselves
independent from the NAC, and claim all rights
to the colonies on Austin and Fenris (which they rename New
Pasadena). After much diplomatic protest and sabre rattling, plus a
few token military strikes, the NAC accepts the
declaration and the FCT (Free Cal-Tex) is
formed.
Pirate Yoffim harass IF shipping and colonies, working to destabilize IF economies and politics. Unconfirmed rumors within NI hint that the outlaws receive secret funds and materiel through NI intelligence. PRM becomes one of the first nations to recognise FCT, though relations sour quickly once ideological differences become apparent. Large scale immigration to VRC's planet PB 1165.1 starts. |
| 2162 | CAS, IAS, NAC, PAU, PRM |
IAS launches first dedicated warship of its own design. NAC retakes "New Sussex" from the PRM in a lightening campaign. While the CAS colonies recovered in short order the real problems were centered close to home. A cargo ship carrying a plant virus cashed near the city of Bamenda in the state of Cameroon causing an ecological disaster. As the virus spread people began leaving their farms and small villages in search of food. When warehouses began running low on food, rioting broke out all over western Africa requiring the PAU army, whose loyalty was in question, to be called out to restore order. To save lives, thousands of people had to be uprooted and moved to the colonies. CAS accepts 500,000 refugees. |
| 2163 | ESU, IF, NAC |
Islamic fundamentalists seize power in New Riyadh, murdering the remaining members of the Saudi royal family. Loyalist elements attempt to regain power in a two year civil war, but eventually fail. The IF becomes increasingly hostile towards both the NAC and the ESU NAC Harrison class Scoutship enters service. |
| 2164 | ESU, FOR, IF, NJ, NI, NAC |
ESU forces on Iylichograd
move on the Neu Transvaal colony and claim its mineral resources;
the Boer settlers withdraw to the jungle areas and embark on a
guerilla war against the occupying ESU.
During the IntraArabian war a small IF colony on CD-37°B015492, populated mainly by the descendents of the displaced Jordanian population, breaks away from the IF and renames itself New Jordan (NJ). NJ becomes an economic, and sometimes political ally of NI. In following years, NI military vessels are seen in joint maneuvers with the NJ defense force. |
| 2165 | CAS, ESU, FSE, FSU, IC, LLAR, NJ, NI, NSL NAC, NSL, PAU |
The Third Solar War breaks out as the
NAC launch a "blitzkrieg" attack to regain
worlds lost to the ESU following the treaty of
Khorramshahr. Initial successes falter as the
FSE joins the ESU, providing men and
materials as well as money to hire mercenary contingents from the
IC and the LLAR.
An attempt to recapture NJ is defeated. The IF force sent expecting to encounter a small local defense fleet, is instead decimated by a combined NJ/NI defending force. The victory is credited to advanced intelligence gathered by NI's Mossad. The FSU declares its neutrality and orders the NSL to remove its forces from FSU space. The NSL grudgingly complies, but begins creation of a secret supply facility in a nearby uninhabited system. The CAS takes its place on the Council of State with ten delegates representing CAS takes their seats as parliament open its session. Third Solar War begins; PAU declares itself to be neutral, but places the army on general alert. |
| 2165-2170 | AE, IF |
The first "hot" phase of the Third Solar War coincides with the
beginning of the Alarishi-Islamic Federation war. This war is
notable for the use of anti-matter weapons. |
| 2166 | ESU, FSE, FSU, IC, LLAR, NAC, NSL, NI, RH, VRC |
The Third Solar War escalates further as the
NSL attacks the bordering FSE
frontier. Mercenary forces from NI are hired by
the NAC. The RH attacks the ESU and refuses safe passage for
IC or LLAR mercenary units through its
space.
FOR attempts to stay out of the Third Solar War, but have a number of clashes with the NSL. The start of the Third Solar War starts the move within the VRC to create a second major base of operations in System LTT 4772. Massive resources are required so mining operations and immigration are stepped up significantly. |
| 2167 | FSE, FSU, NAC, NI, NJ, NSL, PRM |
The Yoffim raid a NJ convoy under
II protection. The skirmish results in small but definite
losses on both sides and is the only time the Yoffim come into
direct military conflict with NI forces. Visible
Yoffite activity ceases after this incident.
PRM takes advantage of the NAC's entanglement in the Third Solar War to re-take "Mao". Although not a major front the PRM are a constant drain on NAC forces for the next 2 years. NSL Ships, based at a secret supply base near FSU space, launch raids into FSE space. |
| 2168 | ESU, FSE, FSU, NSL, RH |
ESU Naval forces enter the
Treralis system and attempt to take the RH-held
settlement of Tsitsihar; the ESU fleet under
Admiral Jia Dehuai managess to defeat the system defence forces,
but at high cost, leaving the ESU assault forces
too weak to create a space-head in the face of fierce resistance
from the Planetary defences.
Blaming the FSU for attcks by NSL vessels, the FSE launches limited reprisals against FSU shipping. A FSU scoutship finds the NSL supply base. After much deliberation, this information is transmitted to the FSE. A FSE assault on the supply base is defeated by the NSL, which was apparently tipped off by FSU informants. The FSE blames the FSU and threatens to declare war. The FSU forestalls FSE action by declaring war on the NSL. A surprise strike by FSU ships severly damages the NSL base. NSL forces temporarily evacuate the area. |
| 2169 | FSE, NAC, NFR, RDC, PRM |
Sponsored by NAC agents,
the French separatists in Bretonneux and Doullens overthrow the FSE forces and proclaim the New French Republic (NFR). The RDC assist by
providing a small naval force that acts as an overwatch.
A similar insurrection in Compville fails. PRM signs a secret peace agreement with the NAC ceding "Mao" and a couple of other colonies to the PRM. The PRM then launches a surprise attack on the very lightly defended FSE colonies on its border. |
| 2170 | FSE, NAC, NFR, PRM, UN |
Scandinavian mercenaries employed by the NAC overrun Compville and install the seperatists
in government; Compville joins the NFR, which is
still denied any kind of diplomatic recognition by the UN due to FSE pressure.
PRM starts is "integration" policy, captured colonists from the NAC worlds are transported to ex FSE worlds and visa versa. The PRM throws its self open to refugees from the war using such people to dilute the NAC and FSE contingents. The large military garrisons required in the border areas contain this highly explosive mixture. |
| 2170 - 2183 | CAS, IF, PAU |
A series of border raids, against the CAS beginning in 2170, were first attributed to IF forces, which had been quietly masking troops along the CAS / PAU borders. By 2179 PAU was having second thoughts about who was causing the raids. The raids were well organized and timed which did not suit the IF usual methods as raiders. Efforts to find a diplomatic solution were frustrated by the IF’s refusing to meet with the PAU or any government. Local militias are place on standby; a general alert is issued to all colonial governments. |
| 2171 |
The war enters a relatively quiet phase, with most protagonists involved in little but minor skirmishing and diplomatic posturing. The major powers use the next few years to consolidate and rebuild their depleted forces, and an uneasy state of "peace within war" ensues. |
|
| 2172 | FSU, NSL |
NSL forces operating form the Core Worlds strike
at FSU system defense forces around Neu Pilzen
and land the 43rd Shutzen Regiment. Local army units and Union
Marines are initially pushed back but manage to contain the
landing. |
| 2173 | ESU, FSE, FSU, IF, NAC, NI, NSL |
The Sumani IV incident.
ESU and NAC peace negotiators are
assassinated by an IF terrorist attack. Years of
distrust between the two powers lead to them blaming each other and
a failure to identify the real culprit. The Third Solar War
intensifies.
A copmbined FSE/FSU fleet forces the withdrawal of NSL ships from around Neu Pilzen. This allows the FSU to add additional heavy ground units from Harzweld to the fray. A few months later, a strengthened NSL fleet enters the system. Surprisingly, instead of landing additional forces, the fleet retrieves the Shutzen Regiment and withdraws. While FSU and FSE attention has been focused on Neu Pilzen, the NSL has established a network of hidden supply bases between the FSE and FSU. Vessels operating from these bases conduct an intensive anti-shipping campaign. 2173.02.18 Fundamentalist controlled and unified IF launches an assault against NI with the sole goal of rendering the planet Gan uninhabitable. The IF force is turned back at the cost of 2/3 of the NI fleet. Not a single ortillery shell or enemy landing craft makes planetfall on NI. The tide of the battle is ultimately turned when the Yoffim, not seen for over five years, jump in and open a new battle line to the flank and rear of the attackers. The hulking Shilum makes its first and only appearance in combat, being destroyed in the final melee. A series of unclaimed assassinations of IF leaders associated with the attack follow over the next year. NI recalls most mercenary units, and calls in political and military ‘favors’ in an effort to rebuild its defenses quickly. NI policy towards IF now focuses on denying the IF the ability to make war on NI, classifying most IF FTL capable tugs and all FTL military ships of Destroyer class and higher as imminent security threats. |
| 2174 | FSE, FSU, NI, NSL, VRC |
In a public tribunal, the surviving Yoffim are convicted of various
crimes short of treason and then pardoned. They are accepted back
into NI society as heroes of the Homeland War.
With interstellar trade severly restricted due to NSL raids, the FSU sues for peace. Conflict with the FSE had never been popular, as most of the population has more ties tro the NSL and NAC than the FSE. Angered, the FSE refuses to withdraw its forces from FSU space and several minor clashes occur. The FSU declares war on the FSE and invites the NSL back into its space. FSU forces sieze the damages FSE battleship "Resistance". A major accident didn't happen in a high security VRC xenobiology lab which didn't exist. In order to limit the non-existing, damage, the lab wasn't destroyed by an anti-matter bomb, which is technology the VRC don't possess either. |
| 2175 | FSE, FSU, NSL |
A strong push by the FSU, named Operation Tenor,
results in the removal of FSE forces from FSUspace. NSL reinforcements
play a vital role in the final phase of the operation. |
| 2176 | IF, NI |
The two largest IF space
construction facilities are destroyed by fast-striking, NI raiders. |
| 2177 | CCS, ESU, FSE, NAC, NSL, RH |
A sudden ESU fleet attack
on the NAC Nagisa system signals the start of
the next "hot phase" of the Third Solar War. The Nagisa colony
falls quickly, following a warning orbital bombardment from ESU warships. Meanwhile, NSL
regulars and Swiss mercenary units strike at FSE
settlements on the inner colony of Flensberg.
Three small worlds - New Caledonia, Ulster Prime, and Dalriada, are freed from NAC rule by Charter in 2178 to form the Confederation of Celtic States (CCS). By Charter the CCS is responsible for all-things domestic, but must provide a set number of millitary units to NAC High Command each year, or pay NAC taxes. They are allowed to maintain a small defense force, of NAC approved warships. What the NAC and the CCS define as a "small defense force" differs and has caused some misunderstandings. Tsar Michael II (RH) abdicates in favour of his son, Joseph, no reason is made public. Within two weeks of his abdication, the death of former Tsar, Michael II, is announced to a shocked Hegemony. |
| 2179 | ESU, FSE, NAC, RWC |
The colony of Bradley on Fliescher II falls
to units under General Henri de Pascalle, despite resistance from
the 136th Gloucestershire Regiment that held on for nearly six
months. The FSE pours massive reinforcements or
armour into Bradley to forestall NAC attempts to
regain it.
ESU attacks the RWC world of New Virginia. RWC breaks off all trade with ESU. |
| 2180 | FSE, FSU, NSL |
A half-hearted offensive by FSU/NSL forces against FSE colonies is turned back when the obsolete FSE dreadnought "Beneficeince" and its escorts surprise the fleet's supply and maintenance squadron and either capture or destroy all but one support vessel. |
| 2181 | LLAR, NAC, NSL |
On Kayleigh, NSL and NAC armoured forces are defeated by LLAR mercenary units; General Heinrich Vortsheimer, leading the Allied troops, is relieved of his command following this ignominious reverse. |
| 2182 | ESU, RH |
The ESU lands Khalifate mercenaries on Tsitsihar to reinforce their offensive against RH units in the colony. |
