Operation Avalanche

A Full Thrust scenario for
GZG-ECC IV

Transcript of Newscast on 2193.05.23 at 13:00 GMT

UNSC Reported today the existence of a Kra'Vak stronghold has been uncovered in an unmined section of the asteroid belt. " We probably would have never found it, except for the unusuall concentration of asteroids surrounding the base." stated UNSC Vice Admiral Fristensky.

"We suspect that this base is a refueling station they plan to use in the final assault on the Sol system." continued Fristensky, "This statement is based on analysis of the asteroid field that they have assembled around themselves.

"The field is very dense making navigation through it impossible. Also, due to the density of the field, it is impracticle to blast our way through or attempt to dismantle the field. However, we have detected a corridor they have left into the station. We presume that this corridor is to allow access by damaged or fuel-depleated Kra'Vak ship for repair, refueling, and rearming.

"As we speak, Operation Avalance is commencing. It is designed to penetrate the Kra'Vak stronghold and remove the base station."

[At this point the Vice Admiral is interrupted by an Aide]

"Attention, Please!
We have just recieved reports that our patrols have intercepted a Kra'Vak battle fleet just inside the orbit of Neptune. The UNSC, in conjunction with the ESU, FSE, NAC, NSL, OU, PAU, and IC have declared Martial Law system-wide. Following this announcement, please stay tuned to recieve further instructions from your civic authorities...

Game Mechanics

Operation Avalance is a Full Thrust scenario designed to pit a task force of Human ships against a collection of Kra'Vak defenders.

Number of Players: 4-8

Game Area: 40mu x 252mu. This area represents a corridor through a dense asteroid field. It will be represented on a 40x96 table that will slide toward the Kra'Vak base as the Human fleet advances. The area will be populated with asteroids moving toward the Human fleet at a velocity of 6mu. Off-Table is a very dense asteroid field. Any ship that leaves the table has a 1/3rd (1-2 on a d6) chance of being destroyed from a collision with an asteroid.

Rules: FT/FB1/FB2 and some House Rules (see below)

Movement: Vector (maximum push of 1mu)

Measurement: 1" = 1mu

Forces

The forces are not finalized, but each side will have a large number of ships. The forces will bread down about 45% Escorts, 45% Cruisers, 10% capitals.

House Rules:
  1. Fire through the rear arc is permitted regardless of engine use.
  2. Pushes are limited to 1mu
  3. Any ship off-table will roll to see if it is destroyed. If it is not destroyed, it still takes damage from impacts with minor debris.
Turn Off Table Destroyed on (d6) Damage
    1 1 1d6
    2 1-2 2d6
    3 1-3 3d6
    4 1-4 4d6
    5+ 1-5 5d6
  4. Any collision with an astertoid destroys the ship
  5. An asteroid will block Line of Sight (LOS) between ships. Ships must have LOS to the target in order to fire on them.
  6. Additional rules for UNSC spinal mount weapons and large station-based K-Guns.
