There are several different derivatives of it made by different manufacturers, but they are all essentially the same. The only time it has seen use in combat is when it was acting as a courier between a combat area and a base. It's one Class 2 beam weapon is essentially a spinal mount with the other systems packed in around it. This makes it exceedingly unpopular with it's crews as it is very cramped.

A swarm of Kru'tleenaai attackships can ruin even a heavy cruiser's day. Because they employ expendable munitions, Kru'tleenaai are usually deployed with one or more collier ships that are kept well back from the active battle. Rearming the Jlekhraa'nra missile packs is dangerous work, as they can only be replaced manually by crewmen employing EVA repairsuits. Imperial fleet ships reflect the K'rathri's hunter spirit - they are fast mounts with sharp claws and fangs. Ships are designed with cinematic movement in mind.

Systems 1 x FCS 3 x Submunitions Pack (F) Notes: In 2171, in the quiet years of the Third Solar War, FSE shipyards were hard pressed to keep up with both replacement needs for the war and the new need for materials for the New French Republic rebellion. L'Astromarine's needs for large replacement hulls dominated the capacity of the FSE's main shipyards. The admiralty put forth the idea of a small inexpensive craft that could be produced locally at frontier yards to bolster system defense forces, and thus the Requin was born. Since they would never be separated from their supply base, resupply of their Sub-munitions packs would not be an issue. As the war heated up again in 2177, demands for mobile strike platforms rose a level where the admiralty once again began to look for inexpensive solutions. The Requin, now a proven design, was in plentiful supply at several outworld colonies and a quick solution for strike-boat operations. Though used infrequently, they would end up making a difference against the Kra'Vak in the Xeno War.

The need arises from the fact that FTL communication requires such an enormise power requirements and the radiation by-product makes FTL radio comunication practible only from large asteroids. Also, because pin-point accuracy is required, contacting a moving ship on maneuvers is a practical impossiblility. Cygnus Yaddith class Courier is in use by almost all governments. It features a very fast engine with good protection for this size of ship. CE chose to mount an armor factor of 2 on a fragile frame over an average frame to increase survivibility from a stray shot. While the ship could be crewed by 3 officers and 7 ratings, the normal crew is 3 officers and 5 ratings. This leaves room for 2 passingers if required to act as an FTL shuttle. The original design Y153 featured a thrust rating of 12, but was completely unarmed. This design sold only 10 ships, much below the projected sales. CE also produces an 'A' version that only have a armor factor of 1, but changes the PDS for the more flexible Class-1 beam and a fire control.

The Alexander class was an attempt to field fighters for as little "wasted" mass as possible. It had some success against light forces when deployed with Cossack and Dnepr class ships but its inadequate thrust prevents it from being deployed on "probe and run" recce missions.

It is incapable of engaging any other vessel in combat but is fully capable of skirting the fleet's extremities, offering support to the NSL vessels which are usually rather static in the face of an enemy assault.

Cossack-C - Fast Attack Corvette Designed to outfight enemy light ships using its superior thrust to maintain distance so as to benefit from the superior range of the twin class 2 beam over the usual weapons carried by light ships. Note the offset arcs, the ship is designed to roll to bring the beam to bear on the starboard broadside. Given the increasing number of "probe and run" recce raids being carried out by the RBF and the inability of the Alexander class to cover such raids the Cossack-D now entering service will have a PDS in lieu of one armour point. The Cossack-B had a torpedo instead of the beam but was found to be too vulnerable in its intended role against the enemy's battle fleet. Many Cossack-B's were modified to Cossack-C standard, the modified ships can be identified by the remains of the torpedo tubes on the top of the hull. The Cossack-A was a abortive design with far to many weapons for its hull which never got off the drawing board. The Cossack class is not named but bear numbers, the first Cossack-B was 1001. The Cossack-C started at 1201 and the first Cossack-D will be 1501

It's been dismissed as "a gun and and an engine, wrapped in aluminum foil", but it has proven to be surprisingly effective. Its high maneuverability allows it bring its single large gun into play with relative ease, and its fragility is of no concern to the New Bavarians. No one of any importance is ever assigned to a Hemlock, and they tend to leave almost no recoverable debris when they are destroyed--and thus, there is that much less evidence for the inquisitive to work with. It carries strong (for its class) armor over a weak hull. It has some protection from missiles. It also carries fairly heavy armament for its size. The Willard is too small, however, to mount an effective ADFC/PDS combination. Willards are used primarily in systems which restrict warships to Frigates or smaller.

The Miyazaki/C concentrates its power into a broadside that can be reversed with a simple roll maneuver. The Miyazaki/C matches the power of the NSL Ehrenhold FF without sacrificing speed (it does however not have the armor of the Ehrenhold). However, it could not overcome the political forces that forced a refit of most Miyazaki's to the Minerva specification. It is an interesting side note that the other NAC asymetrical design, the Avalon, started going through refit just after the Minerva conversion of the Miyazaki's.

The winning side of the debate sited the need for a small warship equiped for anti-pirate work in the outer colonies. The opposition pointed out the NAC's lack of anti-fighter/missile escorts, but failed in the attempt to save the Miyazaki. Between 2169 and 2173, the Miyazakis were refitted and redesignated the Minerva class. In 2181, concurrent with the introduction of the Tacoma Hvy Frigate, some Minervas were starting to be converted back into an anti-fighter roll as the Minerva/A.

In addition to that, in order to be of any worth this class of ship could not be assigned as the sole anti-fighter/missile platform of a squadron. So usually 2 or more were assigned, if at all.

Apart from a very few designs such as the OU's "Red Rocketsz", a Phar Lap can outrun anything it can't outfight, and handily outfight anything it can't outrun. The Phar Lap is basically a "stripped-down racing version" of standard Fremantle/River class Destroyer, and shares the same power plant and manoeuvre drive, but on a hull less than 2/3 the size. Although rather cramped and short- ranged for an OU ship, it has become quite popular due to its toughness relative to competing non-OU designs.

Generally they did not fulfill the desires of their designers. The KASHIN Class destroyer was one of those design attempts. Unfortunately, since it's salvo-missile load was a one-shot deal, and required the removal of the original design's Class-2 batteries, this ship class was ill-suited for independent operations. The plus side of this design is that the salvo-missile package the KASHIN destroyers carried was usually of the 'extended-range' variety, allowing them to generally get the first hit in.

The NAC Naval Command wanted something that was fast enough to get in close, deliver a potentially devastating blow to an enemy capital ship, and get the Hell out of Dodge again. BuShips modified a TICONDEROGA for demonstration purposes, and came up with the CHAMPION. Satisfied observers from the NAC Naval Command placed an order for 12 of these ships. One Class-2 battery had to be dropped, as well as the two Class-1 batteries, in order to mount the two CSK-12 Sundance Missiles. The remaining Class-2 battery was rotated 60 degrees in order to give it anti-ship coverage in the forward 180. Support ships would be necessary to protect the flanks. These ships are to usually be assigned as replacements for TICONDEROGAs in the Destroyer Squadrons, and would prove especially effective when paired with HORNET-class CVMs.

Systems 2 x PDS 1 x Fighter Bay Notes: Looking for a cheap way to deliver fighters to a theater of operations without dedicating one of the specialized carriers or dreadnought ships, the NAC came up with the HORNET-class mini-carriers. These 'tin can' carriers are generally assigned to Destroyer Squadrons or Cruiser-Destroyer Groups where having a dreadnought or one of the specialized carriers would be overkill, but yet where some presence of fighters is desireable. As these ships look identical to the TICONDEROGA DDs, it generally is impossible for an enemy to determine which is which until either the ship in question fires weapons or launches fighters. This has given more than a few raiders and skirmish instigators a surprise when a couple of 'lowly' destroyers suddenly disgorge a flight of fighters. Of course these ships were not meant to stand up there with the TICONDEROGAs, so an enemy may figure out they are CVEs by their hanging back, and take appropriate action.

Specification called for an agile craft with a heavy punch that would cost at or under 1650Mcu. CE presented two other designs with the longhorn. One was similar to the NAC Huron and a licenced version of the ESU Tibet. FCT decided that the heavy striking power of the SMR's would work well for them, as long range supply was not a problem. FCT ordered 10 Longhorns with an exclusive marketing clause.

As standard practice, two Class 2 Beam Systems are removed, and replaced with a pair of Needle Beam Systems.

The SERRA ANGELs proved to be slightly more capable than the FURIOUS CEs, but they did not have the armor levels of their cousins (ie, no armor!) Thus while they proved to be more effective in the anti-fighter/missile role, they also proved to be a little more fragile in ship-to-ship action. Retaining the level-1 screen does help against beam attacks, though, and it is hoped that the high-thrust level of the CLE will also insure its survivability.

The Sharon has seen a long and hard service life, with multiple refits and alternate designs. Four of the original hulls remain in service, and several other variants continue to be integral parts of the fleet. The Sabra variant may be seeing new life during the Intersentient War as an anti-Kra'Vak strikeship.
